I am wondering if there is anyway that we can add 1 contact to multiple Emma groups at one time, instead of clicking the "new group membership" button, adding them to one group, saving and then going and repeating. If there was a way to go ahead and add John Smith to my ALL list and then to more narrow groups like California List at the same time.

You can use the Add button at the Audience page, you can add their details on the left of the page, then the right of the page will list all your groups. Tick all of them and save.

I think Claire and I were probably responding at the same time, but we're onto the same idea.

If I understand your question correctly, it sounds like you are needing to add new contacts to your mailing lists manually. There may be more than one way to do this, but perhaps the easiest way is from the Audience tab -- click on the Add button in the upper right hand corner of your screen. Your groups should be visible underneath, where you can check boxes to add your new contact to one or more than one group at a time.

If you want your new subscribers to be able to do this themselves from your sign-up form, there is a note about doing that here.

I'd use the API to do that so you can dump an entire database table into multiple groups in one shot!

Sorry, I should have been more clear. I was wondering if I can do this using the Salesforce Emma integration. Adding John Smith to multiple groups at one time on the SF Contact record in the Emma Groups related list.

Hi! It isn’t possible to do this with Salesforce. Feel free to submit a feature request for it, if you’d like, and I’ll loop in our product team.
