Adding siblings with same parent email

I want to add siblings who have the same parent emails into my audience. I need to do this because the kids are in two different performance groups so will need different emails at different times. I keep getting an error message saying I can't add the second child because their is already someone with that email in my contacts. Any suggestions on how to override this?

Hi there! Sounds like you’re trying to add smithparents@example.com twice as brand-new contacts in your audience. That won’t work, because Emma’s sees that address is already a contact.

Instead, you can pull up the address in your audience and add it to multiple groups, based on how you’re targeting the messaging for those separate performance groups. While looking at the address’s contact record, you’ll spot that you can check boxes for each group they should be in and click save.

As Katie mentioned above, there isn't a way to have two separate records in your account that share the same email address. One possible workaround might be to add more member fields to your contact records where you could identify multiple children (i.e. "Child 1", "Child 2", etc). Here's an example of what that would look like in a contact record:


If you have the names in separate fields like this, you'd be able to target specific students/children in an email using personalization. You could certainly also still add your members to groups that are relevant to the individuals you'd want to target for sending- and, even have some powerful segmentation options at your disposal with the new member fields available.

Regarding changing the text for a field- can you expand on that question at all? Are you looking to change details of the field itself? Or, just the data that exists in the field for a member record?
