I don’t use dates as a field, but would like to send a specific email to them if they are in a certain state.
So if they sign up, they get the welcome email, then they can get an email tailored just for Texas (or whatever state they are in).

I already have segments for states like I need them. But what to do from here....

Hi there!

There are a couple of options to set up a welcome series to be tailored by a specific data field and I'll run you through them below.

The first option would be to create a new workflow for each state, using the segment that groups folks by their state as the audience and setting up the welcome series the same for each workflow but changing the segmented state as the audience.   This isn't particularly efficient as you would end up with 50 different workflows.  That being said, if you were to group up the states and only had say, 5-10 different workflows then this wouldn't be a bad way to do it.

The alternative is to use Dynamic Content which would enable you to have one workflow, with changing content based what is in the "state" data field.  As a side note:  Dynamic Content can be a bit tricky, it can also appear pretty daunting but I would definitely recommend checking out our Resource Center guide to see if it fits in with what you're looking to do.

Segmenting your audience based on their location is a great place to start, if you're not necessarily looking to automate the location-specific emails then you're already most of the way there with having gathered that information.

Please feel free to give me a shout with any questions you might have :)
