Automation sends email on initial signup, not confirmation

What we're seeing now is that the automation sends the trigger email when a new person signs up *before* confirmation. So the person receives the email with the confirmation link AND the trigger email at the same time. We'd really rather have the trigger email sent when the person completes/confirms the signup.

Hey there -- that is a great thought. There isn't currenlty a trigger set up that functions that way, however, you could adjust your workflow slightly to accomplish this.

First, you can delay the mailing to send 1 day later rather than immediately, giving the subscriber time to receive the confirmation email and confirm opt-in if they choose to do so.

Then, you can run a segment based on contact information to find any contacts (or you can specify a group to search in) that have confirmed opt-in, meaning they clicked the link in the confirmation email to confirm their subscription:

Then just update your workflow to send to that segment, ensuring that only subscribers who have confirmed opt-in will receive the autoresponder. Let me know if you think that will work for you!

I want to follow up here with another, simpler option!

You have the option to disable the confirmation email for the form in question so that only the workflow message will be sent. That extra step of confirming the subscription isn't required. You can disable the confirmation email from any given signup form by accessing and editing that form:

Let me know how this works out for you!

I'm wondering if it would be best to just use the plain text email that gets sent out once a subscriber clicks the confirmation link. Is that the Thank You tab in the form admin Signup Stages? It's unclear to me which is which.

We'd like to confirm subscriptions so no one is signed up erroneously, and also have a way to get a message to subscribers once they're actually confirmed (without having to babysit the process).

The thank you tab is a thank you web page, not an email. If you want to your subscribers to confirm opt-in, I would go with my original suggestion! That way, you can send both the confirm it email and the welcome autoresponder, with the autoresponder only going out to those contacts that have confirmed opt-in.

Does that process make sense? Let me know if you have any questions!!
