Best practice to re-email to bounced and corrected records?

In my recent mailing (call it Green) for example, there were 134 bounces.  So I began checking, removing and updating records until I got the list down to about 50 bounces.  Assuming I kept each record I fixed  attached to its recent Green mailing, changed their status from error to active, and saved my changes, will that record automatically get re-emailed as part of that "Green" mailing, or do I need to create a new mailing (Brown) to get those (84) updated records mailed (use the same mailing vehicle, but build a new "audience")?  If so, is there an easy way for me to find those recently updated records so I can re-email them? Thanks for any insights.

Hi there!

Thanks for a really great question.  List management is paramount to ensuring optimal delivery of your mailings, and it’s great to see that you’re looking to keep a clean list.

There is definitely a way to resend your mailing to those contacts that previously bounced it back.  In saying that, it’s important to know which contacts may or may not be worth resending to.  It looks like you’ve already been through the list and determined for yourself which ones should be valid.  For those contacts that were moved to error status due to a hard bounce, we generally don’t recommend moving them back to active unless your sure that they are valid email addresses.  This is because repeat sending to bad addresses can have some serious consequences down the track.  Once you’ve established those bounced contacts that you’d like to resend to, we want to isolate that segment, create a copy of the mailing and send it out again to those few.

Head on over to your Response page and find that specific mailing.  Go to the list of contacts that bounced and select “Save this tab as a segment.”  Now you will have a segment of those contacts within your audience, the soft bounces will remain in active status while those that bounced hard will remain in error status.   These contacts won’t be included in future sends unless moved back to active status.  Next, you would want to make a copy of that sent mailing, and resend it to that segment you just created.

I hope that helps! Please don’t hesitate to let me know if you have any follow-up questions here :)
