Hey Emma! We have a list of email addresses that we’ve obtained from a local restaurant organization. Several of our staff addresses are on the list as are lots of our friends at other restaurants here in Nashville. I’m told the list is widely used by lots of businesses in town for marketing purposes and they’ve all opted-in to receive emails sent to the list. Can we import and send to the addresses on this list? Thanks!

Thanks for asking. There's some great information about this topic in our help articles, but the short answer is no, you can't use that list.

Our standard for permission is that the people on your list have actively joined your list. That means they’ve signed up through your website or at your business, purchased from you and provided their email address, or engaged with your business in some other way. This direct permission is vital because it helps you grow a list of subscribers that will be engaged and interact with your emails. We find that lists lacking this kind of permission don’t get the results you expect and can work against you in the long run by reducing the deliverability of your messages.
If you need any more guidance on this issue, please let us know!
