The personalization tag I've added to a custom HTML email isn't working. It's not showing an error, but my test email isn't showing any results from the code:
<a href="[% member:name_first default=Friend %]"></a>

Here's how the code looks:

But here's how my test email looks:

Please help?
And thanks!

Hey Denise!

I don't think you need an actual <a> html tag for the personalization snippet.

What if you just put:

Well, right this way, [% member:first_name default="Friend" %]!

Does that work? Also make sure you have quotes around the default value.

Oh! That worked! Thank you! Except all I got was "Friend." If I'm sending a test to myself and I'm in my contacts with my first name in the first name field, why didn't it grab "Denise"?

Glad that worked -- half of it, at least!

You definitely should be able to see your own name as the content if you're in Contacts and you're pulling in the first_name field.

I noticed in your example you're using name_first when it should be first_name.. so double-check your syntax to make sure everything is in the correct place/order! When you insert the snippet via the WYSIWYG, everything should be immediately correct.

Hope that does it for you!

AH! Never mind! Got it! Just had to flip from "name_first" to "first_name," just like you said to begin with!
Thank you so much for your time, Noah!
