When looking at the response page for a mailing, what criteria does Emma use to determine if the person opening the e-mail is using a mobile device or desktop?

Hi there! Similar to how we detect opens by client, we look at the user-agent header, and it tells us if the email was opened on a mobile device.

Wikipedia has more about mobile device detection, and you can read about user-agents here. It was news to me, too. :)

Hi Katie, thanks for the info. Is a tablet or iPad considered a mobile device as well?

Hi there,

What if the email is opened in a browser window that is mobile sized and the email responds down to mobile, will this count as a mobile open?

Thanks

Hey,

mailings opened in a desktop window that has been sized for mobile will still count as a desktop open.

I hope this helps.
