Automatically suppress survey respondents for resending

I've read some of the other posts about using Surveys in order to manage event registration, but that seems a bit cumbersome once you get into the weeds, especially if you're trying to manage things like suppressing respondents/registrants for future emails. We use Constant Contact to do this as they have a great events module that makes this process smooth from start to finish, but I would love to be able to ditch CC completely to have one centralized ESP at some point, as Emma is far superior to CC in almost every other way based on what my company's needs are.

Hi Vince! Many Emma users use surveys as an event registration form. Is there a particular functionality you’re looking for and not finding there? I’d love to share that with our product team, as we’ll be working on forms next year.

There’s also this idea about suppression lists, if that’s up your alley. Feel free to add your vote and use case there!

Katie, thanks for getting back to me on this one too. To be honest, I haven't tried any of the procedures others have used surveys for this purpose yet. I was just reading some of the other posted questions related to it and it all sounded a bit complicated. I'll probably just keep the solution I've got with Constant Contact as it's very straightforward and doesn't require me to do a lot of manipulating different pieces. If I have time ;-) I will experiment with your solution. Thanks!

I don’t think using a survey as an RSVP is tough, but my goals might be different from yours. :) I’m glad to talk through how you’ll do that and answer any questions you have along the way! What I like about using surveys for registrations is that all the answers are kept on the same page as my mailing data and easy to export and sort.

Let me know if I can help with anything!

Thanks Katie. What I like about CC's solution is that I can start with an email list of invites, and then I almost never have to touch it again. Subsequent emails after the first invitation automatically suppress all responders, whether they are registrants or declines. I don't have to do any segmenting, exporting, re-importing, etc. If I choose to set up an email to go specifically to registrants (such as a pre-event reminder), I just tick one box and CC knows to send only to those people. From what I have gathered, Emma's process would require a few -- perhaps several -- more steps?? Again, forgive me for not even trying your product yet so I could be very mis- / under-informed. I'm just looking for a very simple/quick solution as I'm pretty much a one-man department, and I would like to someday drop CC as the biggest drawback to maintaining two separate EMSP's is having to coordinate two different (duplicate) databases of emails.

I hear you. Emma automatically dedupes, which means if you send the event invitation to three lists, Emma will notice that sallyforth@example.com is on two of the lists and only send to her once. It sounds like what you’re looking for is the ability to send to your list(s) and then resend some type of correspondence to only those who haven’t taken the survey/registration. You can still achieve this by creating a segment in your account, but I’d agree that one button is always easier!

We’re planning to tackle forms next year, from what I hear, so I’m checking in with our product team to see what the audience management component might be. I’ll let you know what I find out! Oh, and I’m going to tweak the subject line here a bit to make it clearer what our chat turned into.

Hi Vince,

I checked in with our product owner working on our new autoresponder capabilities to see if something could be leveraged there to accomplish what you'd like to do. It seems to be a bit of a stretch. The feature you're looking for is not currently planned. I appreciate the suggestion though and the use case you're going after, along with the extra details about how you've seen it done elsewhere. Sorry I don't have better news as our team is focused on a few longer-range projects that we're excited to roll out soon, starting with our refreshed response overview and an update to Metric over the next couple of weeks.

Best,
David

Hi David, thanks for the response and for investigating this further. No worries, though I do think you guys would see quite a lot of interest in this level of functionality as I know CC's EventSpot module is fairly popular. Hopefully someday.

Thanks,

Vince

Hello, We are starting to do more events and definitely need this kind of function. I was trying to send an event reminder to only those who have responded yes and the export/import is cumbersome. Additionally, we no longer have Excel (because we use Google docs), which is becoming a problem with exports.

Hey guys! Thanks for all of your input here. We're excited to announce the launch of a new beta feature, the ability to exclude a segment from receiving your mailing. We've posted details on that release here, and are excited to get it in front of you to see how it will meet your needs as we work to further expand this feature! We've turned it on for several of you already, so if you don't see this in your account just give us a shout here. We'll get it flipped on for you.
