We are having problems with the link for our ads using Doubleclick for Publishers Premium. The ads display fine, but the Emma link isn't connecting with DFP. Here is an example: http://e2.ma/message/ew8bwb/m2a85o. Is there something additional we need to ad for DFP? Thanks [This was originally a private thread, reposted to be public]

Thanks! Here’s what I posted in the original conversation:

Sorry to hear you’re having problems! I’ve never used Doubleclick for Publishers Premium. Would you mind filling me in on how it’s meant to work and perhaps how it differs from Google Analytics? All of the links in your mailing are clickable for me, except for the Ivanka Trump image, which takes me to http://www.google.com/gen_204?reason=EmptyURL.

Hi Katie, the following is the link provided by our ad server company, Doubleclick. Emma's link pulls up and then it waits for the ad server and gets stuck. Is there anything on the Emma link that would prohibit the ad call?

It looks like you’re trying to link an image to an image; is that right?

Would you mind letting me know the name of the sub-account in which you’re working, the name of the mailing where this is broken and the name of the template you’re using?

In our testing, the link you’ve provided worked, so it will help to check out that mailing with the above details. Thank you!

Katie, thanks for your help, this is becoming an urgent issue at our office. The ads are placed in all the templates. You can look at Capital Style / Capital Style Newsletter to see one of them. I am sure once we figure out how to get one working, the rest will be easy. I just can't figure out why the link is not loading.

I’ve jumped into that sub-account, but I’m not spotting which mailing you’re working in; the latest two drafts are from Feb. 7, and there are two recent sent mailings from Feb. 7 and 14. Will you please let me know the name of the mailing where this isn’t working?

Also, to make sure I understand your goal, you’re trying to link an image to another image, at this URL?:

http://ad.doubleclick.net/N8919/ad/eNewsletters/10TV_Animals;sz=160x600;dcove=r;ord=%%User ID%%?

Katie - I have set up a test email entitled "Sample email for Katie." We are just trying to insert the Doubleclick for Publishers ad code into our template. The ad serves up, but when you click it the link does not load. Do you have other clients that use Doubleclick that we may gain some information from?

Searching our archives, I checked in with one Emma user who reported using Doubleclick a few years ago, but I haven’t heard back from him.

I think you may simply have the wrong URL in your template, Capital Style Newsletter. We found this:

<a href='http://ad.doubleclick.net/N8919/jump/eNewsletters/Capital-Style;sz=160x600;dcove=r;ord=")=%%%%User ID%%'><img src="http://ad.doubleclick.net/N8919/ad/eNewsletters/Capital-Style;sz=160x600;dcove=r;ord=%%User ID%%?" /></a>

The img source seems right, but if you copy and paste the link in the href, http://ad.doubleclick.net/N8919/jump/eNewsletters/Capital-Style;sz=160x600;dcove=r;ord=")=%%%%User ID%%, into a new browser tab/window, it doesn't go anywhere. So it seems like a broken URL from the start. Would you mind double-checking that link? Let me know if there is a URL that works outside of Emma that’s breaking when used in a mailing or template, and we can take another look.

Katie,

I just received some information that I think will be valuable in finding a solution. I believe the link is not working because we need to disable Emma link tracking on these ads. In Exact Target, they used the CONCAT command to disable the link. Here are notes from one of our former developers:

- Exact Target performed click tracking by default.  The system tracks every link you can click within the email.

- ET recognizes the ad as a link

- The 'concat' jump tag bypasses Exact Target from identifying the ad as a link.

Thanks for your help on this. This fix is of the utmost importance to our organization.

Here is an example of the code with the "concat" jump tag:

%%=CONCAT("<a href='http://ad.doubleclick.net/N8919/jump/eNewsletters/Capital-Style;sz=160x600;dcove=r;ord=")=%%%%User ID%%'><img src="http://ad.doubleclick.net/N8919/ad/eNewsletters/Capital-Style;sz=160x600;dcove=r;ord=%%User ID%%?" /></a>

I'm not familiar with CONCAT, but we can't disable Emma's link-tracking, which we talk about in this conversation.

When you first reported the problem, you were using this link:

http://ad.doubleclick.net/N8919/ad/eNewsletters/10TV_Animals;sz=160x600;dcove=r;ord=%%User ID%%?

which does work when pasted into a browser window. But that's what you're using as your image source; the link you're using as your href is:

http://ad.doubleclick.net/N8919/jump/eNewsletters/Capital-Style;sz=160x600;dcove=r;ord=")=%%%%User ID%%

which doesn't work when pasted in a browser window. Are you sure the href link is correct? I'm not sure how it could be, if it doesn't work on its own. Have you ever used these successfully in Emma in the past? It seems like since this is in a global template, it would be something you've run into before, so I wanted to check.

I am told that the link doesn't work because it needs to communicate with Doubleclick for Publishers (DFP) to get the User ID number for the session. My understanding is the %%%User ID%% makes the call to DFP and DFP returns a number and inserts it into the link, which activates the link.

Sorry for any confusion on using 10TV, Capital Style, etc. These are all examples, we have six publications, Capital Style, Columbus Monthly, Columbus Bride, Columbus CEO, Columbus Alive and COlumbus Crave, which all need to use this this functionality. 10TV is another media division of our company.

I am told that they made these links work in Exact Target and opened communication between the Exact Target link and DFP, by bypassing the link tracking and "jumping" the link with the CONCAT command.

You mentioned that you had another client using DFP, were you able to reach out and see how they were able to make this work?

Thanks so much for your help!

The Emma user who’d previously contacted us about DFP is no longer with that company, so I haven’t heard back.

Have these links ever worked for you in Emma?

I believe they worked when I first tested the template, but I cannot confirm that.

OK. I don’t think that this will work in Emma. On ExactTarget’s website, it looks like this is an integration of theirs. Checking out some other email service providers like us, I’m not finding any other compatible integrations.

I’m glad to keep digging, though, if you can send along an example from when this did work in Emma so we can compare the results.

I’m switching this to an Idea conversation, since it sounds like what you’re actually needing is an integration with Doubleclick for Publishers. I’ll keep you posted with what I learn from the Integrations Team.

Good morning! I've heard back from our Integrations Team that this isn't something we're pursuing right now. We don't have many users who include ads in their mailings, so it's tough to prioritize this without a major shift in user requests.

That being said, we definitely do want to hear from those who want this feature, so vote it up here if you're interested!

Hello, I wanted to see if Emma's Integrations Team has looked an further into an integration with Google's DFP ad serving platform?

Hi there! I don't have any changes to this to report yet, but I'll let you know if we do change our plans.
