I'm trying to send one email (specifically, about holidays) to all of my contacts. Some groups will receive information about banks closed, and others will just receive information about our support desk. I've trying dynamic content html with a variety of categories (both groups and segments) but its not just working.

Hi there! Thanks for reaching out! I took a peek at a mailing in your account called "Holiday Email" that looks like it has dynamic content - I believe that is the mailing to which you are referring here.

Dynamic content is designed to work with audience contact fields, so the [ if ] tag needs to point to a member field, rather than to a group or to a segment. The tag will test an audience member to see if the contents of their member fields meet certain criteria. If they meet the criteria, Emma will insert the content.

If you wanted to send different content based on group or segment membership, you could either:

1. Create cop(ies) of your mailing that include different content and send those versions to the appropriate groups OR

2. Create a new contact field for "Group Membership," and add the contacts' group membership into that field so it can be used for dynamic content. More information on creating a new contact field can be found here.

You can also read more about dynamic content here!

I hope this information helps!
Cheers,
Heather

Thanks for your help - I'd like to keep it in one email. I did set up segments based on the group, but couldn't make that work. I also have a contact field labeled "Service Type" but couldn't make that work either with the dynamic content.

Hi! I took a look at the "Service Type" field in your account. Since that field is a checkbox, it is not compatible with dynamic content. If you create a (new) contact field that is a drop down menu, select one, or a short answer field, you could use that and it would look something like:

[% if member:marketing-service-type == "Social" %]

Where marketing-service-type would be the (new) field shortcut name and "Social" would be the criteria that would prompt the content that follows.

Again, the dynamic content will not with with groups or segments, so you'll need to devise a way to populate that new field with the contact's group name. I'd recommend exporting your contacts to a CSV file, adding a column for "Service Type," updating the column with the appropriate information, then re-uploading/mapping that field back into Emma. When you re-upload, you would just have to map email address and any new field data that you've added. No duplicates will be created, the records would only be updated.

That would be the most efficient way to populate that field so that it can be used for dynamic content.

Cheers!
Heather

Thank you again! I think I made it work with another field already set up. I appreciate your review though!
