Editable Template Colors for heading styles

Is it possible to create a template that allows users to change colors of elements globally? So, for example, can I add a button to the customization toolbar that allows users to set the color of header text?

I know it's possible to allow users to change things like background colors. But I'd like to take it further and allow users to set text colors.

And is there documentation somewhere about how to add customizable elements to that toolbar? I can't find anything that describes technically how to do that.

Hi Jon -- That template toolbar isn't customizable at all from within the editor. Each template has specific elements that are editable. The default header styles and color swatches available in the template must be customized at the template level, which our design services team could certainly do for you.

Can you tell me the name of your account? I'd like to see what kind of account you're working in? Thanks!

I should have clarified. I know that can't be changed in the editor and has to be set in the template. I was just asking for documentation on how that is done and if it's possible to use that to control things like global text colors. I couldn't find anything online.

I'm not sure what the account name is exactly, but it is for Angelo State University.

Thanks, Jon! Since you're working in a tiered account, you have the Template Builder tool at your disposal (assuming the agency admin has given you access). In the screenshot above, it looks like you're working within a mailing in the editor, but if you're building templates at the agency level in assets, you can certainly code in your custom header styles and font color swatches. You'll find all of our documentation on coding templates in Template Builder here, as well as some handy video tutorials here!

Let me know if I'm still not tracking with you completely. :)

I am using the template builder at the agency level. The screenshot above I just took from the resource center as an example. Actually, I got it from the page you linked to so I've already been through that information. It talks about setting styles for elements, but does not address what I'm asking about.

This may not be possible, but I want to be able to put buttons in the toolbar that allows users who create campaigns based on my template to change colors themselves. I know how to allow them to change some background colors. But I would like, for example, a button that says "Headings" that they can click to choose a color, and all headings in the email change to that color.

Ok -- I'm going to run this by some of my design folks to get their insight.

Hi Jon -- My apologies for disappearing here. I talked with our design team lead to make sure I understood your options here. There isn't currently a way for you to target heading styles with an editable color in template builder. We actually can't do that on the back end either - it's a limitation of the editor.

I'll put this in as a feature request to our product team! They'll be able to consider that functionality in future product work. Thanks!
