Error message on sign-up form

If a user has already subscribed to our newsletter and they accidentally fill out the form again they receive this message: 
  • That email address appeared to be invalid.
Is there a way to change that to be more reflective of what actually happened. Like "Oops! Looks like that email address has already been subscribed. You may want to update your preferences." And then link to the manage preferences form?

I did some testing on your 2 classic signup forms (the Newsletter and Default forms) using the Link to it option for each form.

Whether entering a new or existing email address, I got the same (normal) confirmation screen for that form.

If I made changes to an existing email address using the signup form, I did receive an email confirming changes were made.

If I entered an email address (whether existing or new) and omitted the @ sign, or added a space in the middle of it, or omitted the .com at the end, then I did receive the error message you mentioned, stating, "That email address appeared to be invalid."

Based on my testing, both your signup forms are working normally.

I'm guessing the person receiving the error message may have mistyped their email address, or may have had their web browser autofill incorrect info in the email field of the signup form.
