Error message when creating a new member field with the same name as an archived field

When I try to add a new contact field I get the attached error message. I am trying to create a checklist field. I am using Chrome Version 48.0.2564.116 (64-bit)

Hi there -- This error usually means that you're attempting to create a field with a name that's already in use (possibly an archived field). If you've archived a field with the name you want to use, you'll either need to use a variation of that name for the new field or restore and edit the name of the original field. 

If you still have questions, please let me know which sub-account you're working in and what field you're attempting to create. I'll hop in and take a look.

Hi, I archived my original field because I selected the wrong field type on accident and it wouldn't allow me to go back and change the field type. So I either need to be allowed to use the same name on a new field, or change the field type on the archived field!

Due to the nature of how custom fields are created in our system, those choices are permanent and there's not a way for us to change this in the background.  

We do have a feature request in to our developers to explore changing that, and I'll gladly add you in to that request.
