Can I export my whole audience so that I can see which groups my members are in?

While you can export individual groups, the groups each member is a part of doesn't export. The reason is that group membership is fluid and controlled by you and your audience members (if they're using your signup form to change which groups they're a part of), so it isn't data we're able to hang onto behind the scenes in an exportable way.

Hi Dave! It sounds as though our List Segmentation Success package might be a good fit for you. I’m taking this course myself later today with one of our Concierge Services Team members to gather more information about my contacts, segment them for the most success (open and click-through rates) and take my emails to the next level. They could help you organize your contacts so that you needn’t touch each record for review.

If you’re interested, let me know, and I’ll connect you with one of my friends from that team.

Katie, I know how I want to segment my list and reclassify my groups; I just can't do it because the export function won't allow me to see what groups my contacts are in.  It feels a bit funny to be asked to pay for the ability to do this.

I understand, Dave. I’ll count you down as voting for this idea.

I would like to see this function as well so that we can spot any contacts that may have fallen off all groups.  We need to track people by year in school and move them to alums etc...and need to be sure we don't lose anyone along the way.  I vote for a way to be able to export all contacts to a spreadsheet that would show what groups each contact is currently a part of.  That would facilitate easy (though tedious) corrections to any erroneous situation.  Thanks

Hi! I'm so glad you shared this use case. I jumped into your account to see how you've currently organized your audience, and I noticed that you don't have a member field documenting the year for each class. I'm wondering if it would help for you to create a new field and import your audience's year when you bring them into your Emma account so that you can segment by that member field and remove anyone whose graduation year was, say, 2013.

I know that doesn't totally resolve what you're looking to do, but I wanted to note that pulling that year into a field would allow you to segment and easily remove the folks that matched your criteria. Just a thought!

Is there a way to export all members in my database with all their member information into a single csv file; which can also tell me what groups each member is in? (some members may be in multiple groups)

Is there any update on this? . I want to be able to run an export that shows me people who managed their preferences including what groups they are currently in, so that we can update our primary database with the information.  That way we can code them and know not to re-import them to a group they opted out of. Thanks!

Emily, I've been asking for this feature for two years now and have explained exactly why we need it. I'm clearly not the only one. Why is this still marked in Not planned?

This feature was originally marked as not planned because we didn't have any work on this planned within the next 12 months. I'm updating this to Under consideration because we're definitely interested in buidling this out! We're currently doing some behind the scenes work on Audience that will make this work feasible, so I'll be sure to update you here when I have more information.

That is great to hear, Emily. We're really interested in seeing more for the Audience module of your site. I'm happy to chat or fill out a survey if the development team needs any feedback. Thanks!

Hi EMMA team,

I'd also like to vote for the ability to export the full audience (or a subset) that includes the groups of which a constituent is a member. My program has grown beyond the original audience and segmentation rules that I put into place when we began using the service 18 months ago, but I'm having a very hard time evaluating overlaps in the current audience so that I can devise a smart, scalable "phase 2" - I'm afraid I'll wind up in the same "rebuild the whole thing from scratch" boat in another year and a half!

Thanks,
Lissa & the Covenant House team

Has there been any update about this request? I recently took on the project of "cleaning up" our email groups, which were set up without a view toward contact management. I know that my first step is going to be deciding what groups we actually need, and I can do that. What it appears I CAN'T do is export an excel spreadsheet of all contacts, including the groups each contact is part of, in order to decide how they can be mapped into simplified, more useful group options.

We may be interested in Salesforce integration, but I can't get anywhere on that until I fix the issues with our past (lack of) group management in Emma.

Hey there!

I don't have any updates at the moment, but I do know that we're working on making some big improvements to our reporting capability, and this request is one we do get a lot.

I'll be posting back here when I get an update from our Product team!

Hi,

I'm wondering if it is yet possible to export contacts in such a way as to identify those who are not / no longer part of a group.
It is inevitable in the merging and changing of group structures that people get left as 'orphans' and I'd like to find homes for them.

Penny.

Hi there,

You can run a segment of these contacts in the segment builder.  Contacts not assigned to a group are considered to be in "LIMBO" status.

You want to set up your Segment like this:

Then from that segment you can assign those contacts to a group or export if you need to do some sorting and figuring out where they go, etc.

Let me know if you have any questions on this!
