Can I export my whole audience so that I can see which groups my members are in?

While you can export individual groups, the groups each member is a part of doesn't export. The reason is that group membership is fluid and controlled by you and your audience members (if they're using your signup form to change which groups they're a part of), so it isn't data we're able to hang onto behind the scenes in an exportable way.

Is there any update on this? . I want to be able to run an export that shows me people who managed their preferences including what groups they are currently in, so that we can update our primary database with the information. That way we can code them and know not to re-import them to a group they opted out of. Thanks!

Hi Laurie -- This idea is currently marked as Not planned, but I'll see if I can get an update from the Product Team!

Emily, I've been asking for this feature for two years now and have explained exactly why we need it. I'm clearly not the only one. Why is this still marked in Not planned?

This feature was originally marked as not planned because we didn't have any work on this planned within the next 12 months. I'm updating this to Under consideration because we're definitely interested in buidling this out! We're currently doing some behind the scenes work on Audience that will make this work feasible, so I'll be sure to update you here when I have more information.

That is great to hear, Emily. We're really interested in seeing more for the Audience module of your site. I'm happy to chat or fill out a survey if the development team needs any feedback. Thanks!

Hi EMMA team,
I'd also like to vote for the ability to export the full audience (or a subset) that includes the groups of which a constituent is a member. My program has grown beyond the original audience and segmentation rules that I put into place when we began using the service 18 months ago, but I'm having a very hard time evaluating overlaps in the current audience so that I can devise a smart, scalable "phase 2" - I'm afraid I'll wind up in the same "rebuild the whole thing from scratch" boat in another year and a half!
Thanks,
Lissa & the Covenant House team

Has there been any update about this request? I recently took on the project of "cleaning up" our email groups, which were set up without a view toward contact management. I know that my first step is going to be deciding what groups we actually need, and I can do that. What it appears I CAN'T do is export an excel spreadsheet of all contacts, including the groups each contact is part of, in order to decide how they can be mapped into simplified, more useful group options.
We may be interested in Salesforce integration, but I can't get anywhere on that until I fix the issues with our past (lack of) group management in Emma.

Hey there!
I don't have any updates at the moment, but I do know that we're working on making some big improvements to our reporting capability, and this request is one we do get a lot.
I'll be posting back here when I get an update from our Product team!

Hi,
I'm wondering if it is yet possible to export contacts in such a way as to identify those who are not / no longer part of a group.
It is inevitable in the merging and changing of group structures that people get left as 'orphans' and I'd like to find homes for them.
Penny.

Hi there,
You can run a segment of these contacts in the segment builder. Contacts not assigned to a group are considered to be in "LIMBO" status.
You want to set up your Segment like this:

Then from that segment you can assign those contacts to a group or export if you need to do some sorting and figuring out where they go, etc.
Let me know if you have any questions on this!

This would greatly help us keep our contacts organized, but unfortunately that does not seem to be a field that I can add to the export. Any idea on if this can be addressed or can I have help getting this done manually?
Thank you

Thanks for the feedback. Could you please help me understand how you use your exported information? It's always helpful to know the use cases for how our customers use and/or plan to use the data from Emma.
This particular feature isn't on the backlog, but we are doing a fair amount of design thinking around newer audience concepts. Our plan is to be able to let you organize segments of your audience in a number of ways, some Emma-defined and some user-defined, to visualize how that segment is performing and to surface suggestions for better targeting that segment to achieve your marketing goals. I'm hoping that some of what we have planned might be what you're currently doing outside of Emma.
Thanks again for the feedback. Any further information you could provide would be extremely valuable as we design out the future of Audience in Emma.

Since our lists are divided up by market segments, I would be able to easily follow up with the leader of each market segment to make sure the everyone is represented in each list. Does that help?
Thank you,
Courtney

Hi David,
One of our sub accounts is wanting to do a similar thing to Courtney, they have quite a reasonable sized database, and want to re-organise their members into better, more targeted and more streamline groups. They sent me the following:
"Unfortunately when our account was set up, it was done so by people who didn’t fully understand how to manage CRM so the contact fields are irrelevant and the audience groups are rigid.
Having the audience group as an exportable function would allow us to start from scratch and rebuild our contacts in an easily segmented and flexible (audience managed) system.
I’m sure it’s not something you would be asked for everyday so don’t expect it to be a priority for the developers, but it would save a few hours of exporting audience groups individually, for a database of our size."
Another sub account wanted to manage their database in a excel file as a whole, (not per group). One excel file with a list of all members and they will know which groups each member is going into when they update their list, or which new members they have to assign to groups.
From Katies explication at the top I understand why this currently cannot happen, but I'm sure you see how useful this could be if it was.
Thanks,
Kind regards,
Sarah

I know that doesn't totally resolve what you're looking to do, but I wanted to note that pulling that year into a field would allow you to segment and easily remove the folks that matched your criteria. Just a thought!
