First Welcome Email not being sent. Help?

I'm a newbie. And I'm getting started with a Lightbox form on my website + welcome messages to new signups. Having some trouble and I'm not sure where to turn. Help?

My  Lightbox form: works!
Confirmation (are you sure?) email sent: works!
People appearing in my default audience list after they've signed up: works!
Automated "welcome email" message then going to these new subscribers: does not work!

Not sure what the problem is. I've sent it specifically to myself as a test message, but when actually deployed, none of these new sign-up people are receiving this welcome email.

FWIW, the recipients are specified as a segment, not an audience.

Anyone seen this before or have any ideas? Much appreciated.

Figured it out. Apparently I had all new signups immediately joining my main / primary audience.

What fixed it: I needed to select both that audience + segments within that audience to get it right. Couldn't just select 'new signups' segment...

Hope this helps someone else in the same situation.
