We've been using (and loving) the lightbox signup forms on a number of sites... I recently learned about Google's plans to penalize mobile sites with popups that cover the main content starting next year. They do state that popups which use a "reasonable" amount of space will be fine, but think our forms are probably too large... I am curious if Emma has plans to address this so sites that use the lightbox sign ups aren't penalized?

Hi Diane!

Greg with Emma Support here!

I checked in with one of our product owners, and his initial thoughts were these:

It looks like, if you use a lightbox form, your page’s mobile Google search ranking could be affected by their new guidelines. Only mobile searches appear to be affected by the new guidelines. Our product team will be looking into ways to help minimize this effect, perhaps by allowing users to choose to not show the Lightbox form on mobile versions of the site.

This is just an idea, and it will take more research on our end to discover what the actual effects may be. Since they aren't actually releasing the changes until January, it will be hard to gauge how much it will actually affect searches until then, unless Google chooses to release more technical information about what they are planning on doing.
