So what I would like to be able to do is to send an email to folks who are IN either Group A OR Group B, but who are NOT IN Group C.

So I don't believe I can create a single segment (A OR B) AND (NOT C).

I can create a segment S1 = (A OR B).

But then I can't create a segment of that segment, correct? S2 = S1 AND (NOT C).

I know that I could create a group from S1, but that is just a snapshot and would not be dynamic, correct?

For those of you who stumble across this post in search of segments help, I want to let you know that we've updated our segment builder since this question was originally posted. To summarize the conversation here, this user was looking to segment his audience to find contacts in Group A or Group B but not in Group C. I've illustrated that below in our updated segment builder:

The key to building the above segment is to add the criteria in two stages.

Stage 1: Find contacts based on Audience groups who are in Group A or Group B. To specify or rather than and, you'll choose the Any option. This ensures that the segment will search your audience for contacts that might exist in either of those groups rather than both groups. You'll then hit save to close out this stage and proceed to the next stage.

Stage 2: Simply add the last bit "not in Group C" to round out this segment which will search for anyone who exists in Group A or B but is not in Group C.
