How to remove a spreadsheet full of emails from one list, leave in another

I have contacts in two lists, Newsletter and Members. When someone is no longer a member, I want to remove them from the Member list, but leave them in the newsletter list. I have a spreadsheet with a bulk update of 100+ emails to remove from the Member list, but cannot figure out how to do this without deleting the contacts completely. There is no option to import and remove from a specific list.

Please advise.

Thanks!

Hi there,

I really do wish we had the "delete anyone from this group who is not on this list" option in the import feature, but alas, we do not - yet. I will put in the feature request for you.

You could do this with Segments. You would import the list of 100+ emails into its own group, in this case called Non-Members". Then in Segments:

Create a new segment based on Audience groups:

You will look for everyone In "Members" and Not in "Non-Members". This will give you your new send to list without that 100+. You can save that segment as a New Member group. Each update might be titled "Member Group 4/12/17" and then the next time you run the segment, you will change the focus from "Members" to:

Let me know if you have any questions!

This is a good solution. I can't figure out one part though. How do you create a new group from the segment? I'm thinking I'll do that and then just remove everyone from my Members group and copy them over from the new temp group.

Thanks!

Hi there,

You'll go into the Segment:
1. Toggle the "Selected contacts" to "All contacts"
2. Click the "Copy" button.

3. Click "Copy to groups"

4. Create a new group in the Name field and Save or choose an existing group:

I hope that helps!

That worked! A long way around, but it worked. Let me know when that feature gets added! :)
