Hi there!

For detailed instructions with screenshots, check out our RESOURCE CENTER ARTICLE HERE.

If you are having trouble getting your Import to go through, check out our IMPORT TROUBLESHOOTING GUIDE HERE

Here's how you can import an Excel or CSV spreadsheet into your Emma audience (please keep in mind that there may be some wording changes as the app is updated over time) :
  1. From anywhere on your Audience page, click the Manage Imports button (or the "Imports" section of the Sidebar view). From the import screen, click "Create a New Import" at the top-right.
  2. After reading the permissions reminder, click yes to continue. On the next screen, click Upload a file and browse your computer to pull up your file.  The import screen will offer instructions for prepping your file and the steps of mapping the information in each column to the appropriate member fields you've created in your account. Check out this page for help adding new fields.
  3. Map your fields by following the directions on the import screen, or click Guess to let the import screen try to make the matches for you. If your file contains a header row, use the 'Skip' option to exclude it from your import. Click Continue.
  4. Create a new audience group for your import, or select an existing group in your audience. Click Continue. Once you've reviewed your import summary, click Import to start the process.
You can refresh your browser window to wait for the icon on the left to change from a clock (in progress) to a green checkmark (success). If the import shows up as a red X, there was a problem. Click on the downward-pointing arrow button to the right to 'View error' and follow the instructions to re-import the newly tweaked file.
After a successful import, you can also click that down-arrow button to the right to 'View Import Statistics.'

I hope this helps! Give us a shout if you hit any snags along the way.

The only columns we're having issues with are zips and phone numbers. I have, in the original excel file, inserted new columsn, then "cut and pasted/special/values only" of those two columns into the new ones, then I delete the 'old' ones. But even doing this, the zeroes are dropped in the zips and the phone numbers are not formatted into a readable format...just a line of numbers. Ideas?

Hi again -- We already discussed here how you'll need to format the data in your spreadsheet as "text" instead of numbers for this to work, but I wanted to close the loop here as well!

Hi Katie!  I've never really had trouble importing but this one is really getting me.  I am trying to upload a .csv file (it's very small) and everything looks great no red X's or errors.  The file shows up (file name YOC.csv) and it says 0, no data imported.  Please help!!

Hi! Is there a message that reads “no data imported,” or are you seeing that 0 and thinking it means the import wasn’t successful?

If the latter, it sounds like there were simply no brand-new email addresses in your file, and all the email addresses you imported had already existed in your Emma account. Check out this conversation for a breakdown of what those import stats mean, and let me know if you still have a question!

Hi! Happy to help here. First, since you are the administrator for your agency account, you'll need to drill drown from the agency home page to your sub-account using the account search bar at the top of your account:

Then hop over to the Audience tab and click Manage imports.

That brings you to your imports history page where you can click Import to start a new import!

Let me know if you still have trouble locating that button or if I can help in any other way.
