Editor and template builder support for custom typography

I am attempting to include a reference to an external style sheet, which is a custom font which our institution licenses from https://cloud.typography.com. I am aware that external style sheets do not render in all email clients; however, they do work in the most commonly used mobile clients, and it would be nice if our "brand" typography was consistent in the emails that we send out for the clients that do support external style sheets.

Every time I attempt to add the element, the editor strips out the href attribute on save! Very frustrating, since having it there isn't going to harm or degrade the experience for anyone. This is progressive enhancement!

Hi there! Can you tell me if you're coding your own mailing, using the CYO template, or trying to call the style sheet in using another template in the drag & drop editor?

This isn't currently possible with either option, but it might be possible in the near future. We're currently working to enhance our code your own template!

I am using the Code Your Own template option, and I started by deleting all off your code and pasting in the code I've created outside of your editor. I'm using a workflow on my development PC that let's me build the template using all the goodies like SCSS, Jade, etc, and then it builds an email with inlined and embedded styles, etc. We do include the Emma provided CSS in our build, but we don't use your starter template code at all.

Ok! Just to be sure I'm on the same page, are you referencing the CYO template in Template Builder (building a template that you can share with your sub-accounts), or are you working within in a sub, in the CYO template in the drag and drop editor? Thanks!

Template Builder, that is shared with sub-accounts. Thanks!

Hi again! Thanks for your patience here as I consulted our design team on this.

Our editor, as well as Gmail, Yahoo, and Outlook.com, all strip <link> out of the templates a matter of course, because fonts aren’t the only thing people could link to. Malicious options like js files or other nasty hacks were the original concern. So, using an external style sheet is never recommended as a best practice. Using @font-face {} or @import instead to pull in that custom font should do the trick here!

I'm a little dissatisfied with this. @import strips out the external URL as well, so that won't work. Our font vendor, typography.com, doesn't allow you to inline the @font-face code from their style sheets, because we are metered on views and charged that way, so they require a touch on their server. But, just as an experiment, I did go ahead and inline the @font-face rules from their style sheet, and the editor stripped out the base64 encoded WOFF files anyway. So basically, Emma does not support custom typography yet, even though doing so is a progressive enhancement that will only grow in support as time goes on.

Thanks for looking into this for me, however. I appreciate your time, Emily.

I completely understand your disappointment here. I'm transitioning this conversation to an Idea so that I can run this as a feature request through our Product Team. I'll report back here when I know more. Thanks!

Hi again! Thanks for your patience here. I've updated this thread to an Idea and set the status to Under consideration, because we're working on some upgrades to the template builder that should give you more control over things like custom typography. I'll update you here when I have more information on a timeline. :)
