if I delete someone from a segment, does this delete them from a group?

I want to delete multiple addresses from a segment I created but not from a larger group. When I click delete (as suggested) I get a drop down with only one choice: Delete from audience and all groups. How do I delete them only from my segment?

Hi there Emilie!

I'm not sure if you've already received help for this, but I just wanted to chime in anyway to be sure.

Segments work a little bit differently to groups in the sense they are searching your audience for contacts that match a specific criteria.  This is why you aren't able to delete a contact from a segment, because the next time the segment is prompted to run, it's going to pull that contact back in so long as it meets the criteria of the segment.

I think I saw in one of your other posts you used the example of non-responders.  If the segment has initially been run to find all those folks who haven't responded to a mailing over the last 30 days, and a contact responds, it will automatically be removed from the segment when the segment is prompted to run because that contact will no longer meet the initial criteria.

What you can do is copy a segment to a group which will grab a freeze-frame of that segment at the time.  Once those contacts have bene copied to a group, you can edit them as you please.

I guess the key thing to remember here is that a Segment is dynamic whereas a Group is not.

I hope that sheds some light but please don't hesitate to let me know if you have any follow-up questions :)
