Hi there!

Thanks for reaching out about this. Emma will add each member from your list to the group you assign it to, regardless of if it already exists in Emma. It will not be added to a particular group more than once, though. Emma will not ignore contacts on your list that already exist in Emma, but it will de-dupe them if they already exist in the particular group you're adding the list to. Does that make sense?  Let me know if you have any additional questions about this! Happy to help.

So, if the record exists in separate lists, and I use both lists in a mailing blast, Emma will send out the email twice, and not dedupe from both lists?
Thanks.

Nope.  If you send to multiple lists (in a single send), Emma is smart enough to only send the mailing once to each contact and won't send multiple.

I will add that if you send the mailing to one Group, then make a copy of the mailing and send it to a different Group, Emma treats those as separate sends and would not do any sort of de-duping from the original send.

If you find yourself in need of resending a mailing and want to make sure that no one who got it the first time would receive it again, you would want to use our EXCLUDE A SEGMENT feature.

Check out Adriane's description of this process here:  https://community.myemma.com/emma/topics/unopened-email-segment
