I'am new to emma and my problem is trying to personalise email blasts with names or company details.

I have read https://support.e2ma.net/Resource_Center/Account_how-to/How_to_use_dynamic_content#How_does_this_loo... - I cant figure out where to type these in in order to make it work.

https://support.e2ma.net/Resource_Center/Account_how-to/adding-personalization#Including_personaliza... - I cant find the first page where i can give myself the option to select personalised names.

And both of these for me doesnt seem to connect to one and another.

Hi there!

Inserting personalization into your campaigns would be the best fit here for what you are looking to do.  To insert personalization, place your cursor where you want the personalization to pull in and then click the Insert button in the toolbar and select 'personalization'.

Once you select personalization, you will see the personalization toolbar where you can select the fields you can pull in.  Select the field you would like to pull in and also add a default placeholder just incase that contact field is empty.  For example, if you are going to use the first name personalization and that field is blank for any of your contacts, Emma will pull in the default placeholder in that case.

When you send the campaign to your audience, Emma will automatically pull in the first name for each contact in your list so that when it arrives to their inbox, the campaign will be personalized with their first name.  Again, if the first name field is empty for that contact, the defaul placeholder will display.

That should do the trick!  Feel free to reach out with any questions!

Oh okay, its actually within the text box, i was trying to find where the actual button is.

How do i add two personalisation field next to each other, for example, Dear "Mr John" [% member:first_name default="Title_" %] and [% member:first_name default="First_name" %]

Is this correct??

Hi there!

That is correct!  As long as you have the contact field 'Title' as part of your contact fields, then you would select the two personalization tags.

Also I have looked around Emma to find out if i can add more than one Personalisation at one time.

Can you please confirm with me if this is able??

If not is there another way around this?? Ultimately i want to say Dear"Dr John"

You will want to add a contact field to your Audience for Title.  To add the contact field, head over to your Audience page and click on the Manage Contact Fields button and click the create a new contact field button.  From there, select the field type and give it a name, I would suggest Title.  Then import the Titles for all of your contacts, i.e. Mr. Mrs. Dr.  Once that information is imported into your audience, insert the two personalization fields into your campaign.

That should do the trick!  Feel free to give me a shout here with any questions!

Short answer field type would work great!

If you have the information for your contacts on a spreadsheet, you can import that spreadsheet by heading over to your Audience page and click on the Import Contacts button, then click create a new import.

Check this out for steps for importing contacts from an Excel spreadsheet.

Let me know if you have any questions or if there is anything else I can do to help!

When I use the personalization and select first name as the field and complete the placeholder, when the email is received it is addressed "Dear Last name, First name.  Can you assist with this please?

Hi there!

I am happy to take a look!  Are you working in a particular campaign?  Can you let me know the name of the campaign so that I can hop in your account and take a peek?

I'll keep an eye out for your reply!

Thank you for your quick reply.  It is actually any of the emails sent.  I was testing it out this morning with the Birthday template email.

Hi there!

I hopped in your account and added myself to your audience and then sent myself a test of the campaign Untitled Mailing - Support COPY.  When the campaign popped up in my inbox, it automatically filled in my first name.

Can you try to send yourself a test of the Untitled Mailing - Support COPY and see if your first name is pulling, providing that the first name field for your contact record is completed.

Give that a try and let me know if your first name is not displaying in the inbox.

I think I see why.  On the contact list, under first name, it's listed, last name, first name.  Then under last name just lists the last name.

Even though the spreadsheet I imported is not set up that way.  It's set up with First Name in the 1st column, 2nd column is Last Name and 3rd column is email.

Do you have the original list that you imported?  If you can head to your Campaigns page and click on the Documents button and upload that file, I am happy to take a look.

Which audience group did you import the list into?

the audience is Theresa test.  In playing around, there is also Theresa test2.  On this list I had listed last name as first and first as last.  When I sent the test email, the email said Dear "last name".

I took a look at the contact record for each of those groups and everything looks good with the first and last name.  Now that the first and last name are displaying in the record, when you send a test, the campaign should display: Dear Theresa.

Give it a try and let me know!

Head over to the audience group and click on the email address to open up the contact record.  Change the first name field to Theresa and the last name field to Orlando and click save.   When you send yourself another test the campaign should display: Dear Theresa

That should do the trick!

When you do an import from a spreadsheet, just make sure that you are mapping the first names to the first name field and the last names to the last name field and you should be good to go!  Take a look here at this resource for importing contacts.

thanks. Yes, I did that.  In fact, for the test, I typed in the information (instead of exporting from our data base) to ensure information is not getting "messed up" in export.  so yea, I typed the headers and my information below.  Saved and uploaded to Emma.  When I uploaded, I ensured that the First Name, Last Name and Email fields were mapped appropriately.  I even had someone watch, because I was binging to think I was going crazy. :)

I just imported a test list with my contact info into the Theresa 2 group.  I mapped the fields first name, last name and email.  After the import I hopped into the group and clicked on my email address and my first name and last name were mapped to the right fields.

Next import you do, you can do a spot check for some contacts to make sure that the fields are mapped to the correct contact fields.  If you find that they are not, definitely give us a shout so that we can do some testing.
