I have been trying to import contacts (around 1600) for the last 2 days, and keep running into issues. The file began in XLSX - I have tried removing formatting, copying and pasting the data into a new spreadsheet to strip formatting, saving as an XLS file, saving as a CSV file, renaming headers - every tip I can find in here. They still won't upload. I am using Office 365 - could this be an issue with this?

The spreadsheet is saved into my document library. Please help - we wanted to use this for an email going out today!

Hi there -- I was able to bypass that file type error by copying the contents of the spreadsheet into a new workbook and pasting only the "values". That process looks like this:

You'll find thepaste special option in the Edit menu of Excel. I added the revised version of your spreadsheet back to your Document library. It's likely that this export has some hidden formatting from your database or CRM, and pasting just the values usually does the trick!

Thank you for doing this! I'm not sure why this worked for you and didn't work for me (when I stripped all formatting and created a new document, this is what I did), but the upload went smoothly.

Hmm. I didn't scroll all the way to the bottom of your file, but CRM exports often have a few lines of non-data at the bottom or top of your file. You may have success just deleting those if they exist. Let me know if you run into this again and my workaround steps don't work for you!

Hi Emily Hollingsworth,

We enjoy many things about Emma, but this importing issue is becoming a deal breaker.  Your error details ui for imports is not very help.  Any help would be appreciated.

Thanks

Hi there -- I hate to hear that you're running into import trouble consistently. Is the spreadsheet cleanup approach working for you? I know it's an extra step, but if you're hitting a snag there I can take a look at your file. If you'd like me to take a look, you can upload the file to the document library in your account.

We do plan to make significant improvements to the importing process (including error reporting) in the future. We're laying the foundation for this development work now.
