This WYSIWYG editor won't let me upload a bigger version of that picture, so please visit http://op74.net/logocompbig.jpg to see a 2x zoom version, which makes the JPG artifacting clear.
The first slice comes from the web editor and is how the image appears in both edit and preview modes. I'm on a retina display, so the image I uploaded is twice the width of the container and then set to best fit, which I thought was going to work great, given the preview. Note how nice and crisp it looks.
Next, I sent myself a test email, which is when things got weird. The second slice is how the image appeared in that email. Notice that it's become fuzzy and we're getting some color errors at the edges of the text (again, visit http://op74.net/logocompbig.jpg for the zoom). I downloaded the image and opened it up and it's half sized. That's odd, because it's not the image I uploaded. I thought this could just have been because of the image size, but I checked an image that doesn't get resized and, though the effect is much more subtle, it still happens.
Is Emma quietly processing my images before it sends them?
As a side note: we really need support for retina images. There's massive retina use and not having it makes firms that emphasize design look very unprofessional.
