Inserting link to a custom URL using personalization

Hey guys -

I am trying to use personalization to customize various fields in an email template. The only one giving me problems is URL.

I am using UTM strings in my URLs (so I don't want to actually insert the field from my file visually). I want to insert the field from my file as the URL that a standard embedded web address links to -

For example:
My email should always display ""; -

However, what that links out to should vary, not in actual page, but in URL so I can track what is going on. Plus, the tracking URLs are long and ugly.

Is this possible? If not, any other suggestions?

Hey Heather,

Thanks for that additional info! I think it will be possible. Let's say your personalization looks something like this: [% member:utmlink default="" %]

You can add that tag to the link field when creating a link from your clean looking link, like this:

This will pull in the personalized URL from the audience section. Keep in mind a few things: it will pull that link as-is, so you'll want to make sure it includes everything needed to work (like http://, etc.). Also, you can use this tag to link from text and buttons, but at this time it won't work for images.

Check out this RESOURCE CENTER ARTICLE with specifics on the various ways to add links to a mailing.
I hope this helps! Please let me know if you have any questions!
