Is it possible to save the social media links so that they're automatically there for every campaign?

We send several emails a week and we like includeing the social media icons using the drag & drop editor. However, having to enter in the social media account links gets tedious, especially when they're not easy to remember like with google+ and some others we have. Is there a way to save them so that they're already there when we start a new campaign?

Hi Trevor! There are a couple options for keeping those social media links present:

  1. By saving your mailing as a reusable template in your gallery. This way, you can select that template each time, and any text/images/formatting you’ve already applied will be preserved.
  2. By starting your new mailing from a copy of a previous mailing. This way, you can delete what you don’t want, but your social block will be ready for you.

Would either of these work for your workflow?

Thanks for the quick reply!

I'll look into the first option. That'll definitely help with the more recurring mailings. It would be cool if the links were saved in the general account settings so that they're there for every mailing. We like exploring all of the templates and trying out new ones.

Sounds like a cool idea! I’m checking in with our Editor Team to see what they think, and I’ll fill you in on our plans. :)

Seems we've talked before about having this ability, and it wasn't included in our first iteration of the social block, which is still pretty new.

One question we have: Where would you want your social handles to be stored -- Your account settings with the rest of your profile? In the block itself while setting up a mailing? Either way, your social handles would populate into and be saved in the social block; we’re just thinking about the smartest place for you to initially set up those links.

What makes the most sense to you as a user — Where would you want to initially determine your social links?

Hey Trevor! I want to check in again — Would you want to set those social links when you create your account profile, or would you expect to set the links only when you first create a mailing and use that social block? I can see a case for either way, and I’m curious about your impression.

Hi Katie! Sorry I missed your last post. I think both options would be a huge improvement, but my first instinct was to look in the account settings to see if there was a way to store that information.

I would also like to have these automatically set when I use them. I would suggest putting them in Account Settings. Then if our links change, we can easily change them.

Great point! Storing these links in your account settings would mean you wouldn’t have to create a new mailing to edit the links if they need updating.

This definitely makes sense to me! I hadn't actually used the Social Block yet - whoops - but I just did and can see how this would help a lot. Account Settings - maybe a new tab - seems like a logical place to put them.

I do use the new social block. I know there is another thread elsewhere in the forum about whether save-as-templates should inherit the properties of the master template (parent-child relationship). Given that we don't know when or whether that will eventually come to pass, I think I would weigh-in on the side of having the social block links stored in the account settings profile. Easy to update, and independent of the template used.

I always use a previous mailing when I start a new campaign, that way all of my formatting stays the same and my social blocks keep their settings.  Another thing to consider when doing it this way, is all of your "other options" in your send settings (like your sign up form, From name, etc) keep as well.

Have social media addresses saved as part of profile and auto-fill. It's a bit irritating to have to copy my twitter and linked in links in each new campaign. It would be good if they were hard coded.

Does anyone know the current status of this?  We just started using Emma, but it would save so much time to have the social media link auto-populate.  Is this possible for Google Analytics as well?  It appears that ID must entered every time also.

Hi, and welcome to Emma! There hasn't been a change with this idea yet, to have the links in the Follow block save from mailing to mailing (unless you're copying/reusing a mailing), and I'll be sure to update this conversation once there's news to share.

This reply was created from a merged topic originally titled Follow Social buttons across templates.

I am the developer for our Emma templates and noticed that there are [block] tags that were entered for us from your design team that trigger the Social Sharing option to happen for us.
BUT is there a tag for our base templates that we can use for the 'Follow'?  I see in the template editor when you make a new campaign you can add "Follow" links, but this seems to be per campaign not globally for all accounts.

If I go into our Assets area and create a new Template, is there a Tag that I can use that would be the same or similar as the Social Sharing tag but for the Follow Us tag?

I see that someone added the individual social icons to our pages in our footer for our Base template, BUT in the actual campaigns we can't access them.

Also if I make a change to the base template in "Assets" area, and look at a template I created in the Campaign template editor that was based on our base template, our changes don't take effect.

Example:
In assets I create a template with a header and footer called 'MyBaseTemplate' and the content area is filled in by the editor in the Campaign section  (seems a bit disjointed but that is another ticket).

I then create a new template in the Campaign section of on of our accounts and say 'Save as Template' and call it "Marketing Template 2015"

I THEN go back to my 'MyBaseTemplate' in the Assets area of our account and change the footer content.  The issue here is now my "Marketing Template 2015" footer does NOT reflect our changes that we made in 'MyBaseTemplate'. Why are these disjointed in this way.  Since the Marketing template was based on the Base Template, I would expect the Marketing Template to reflect the changes.
