We've noticed that over the past several days people have been receiving our daily newsletter several hours later than usual. We send it every week day at 11:30. This is an issue for us, since people are expecting to receive their daily newsletter at that time. It appears uncoordinated and faulty on our end even though we never changed anything.

Hi Bethesda Magazine!

Thank you for reaching out.  I can totally understand the perspective you have when your mailings are being delivered later than expected. I hate to hear that this has caused you some frustration! I hope I can help with this.

When you click ‘send’ on your mailing from Emma, Emma starts delivering those right away. It’s actually in the hands of the receiving servers whether they go ahead and accept the mailing right then, or hang on to it before placing it in the inbox. There are many factors playing into this, including server traffic, filtering, as well as email content.

We often see delivery happen in an instant, and we always hope this is the case, but the reality is that servers have up to 30 hours to fully deliver an email, or to bounce it back.

For your reference, here is a helpful article explaining a bit more about how email Delivery works.

Is there any particular mailing I can look into for you? I’m happy to take a look to see if there are steps that might be useful in helping the receiving server to let those mailings in quicker!

Hope this helps. I’ll be on the look-out for your reply.
