Maximum number of options and conditional options in contact fields?

When I create a contact field that has either check boxes, radio buttons, a dropdown menu, or a list, what is the a maximum number of options I can add?  I'm asking from a technical standpoint, not in terms of usability.

Related question: we currently have about 400 member sites, and we're growing rapidly. I'm not planning to put 400 options on a dropdown menu. But is there a way we could ask users to select their state from a dropdown first, as a way of narrowing it down?  For example, if the user lived in Kansas, once he selected Kansas from the first menu, another field would populate with options representing all of our member sites in Kansas, and then he could choose his.

Thanks for any insight!

Hi Laurie -- There's no limit, that I know of, on the number of selections you can make in those multi-option fields.

You bring up a great use case here. There isn't currently a way to limit fields on a signup form based on conditions. I'll run this Idea by our Product Team to see what they think!

Hi Laurie -- I checked in with our product team on this, and while we don't currently have any work in motion for classic signup forms, they love this idea! I've marked it as Under consideration since we'll likely work to include this kind of advanced work in future iterations of the forms.

I have a similar request but based on answering yes or no to a question. If they answer yes they go to one set of questions. if they answer no they go to another set of questions or in some cases terminate the survey.

Hi -- I just wanted to check in and see if there is any news on this.

As an alternate idea, is it possible to create a segmented dropdown menu? For example, let's say I did go crazy and put 400 items on a dropdown menu. Could I group them by state, and then add the state name as a group heading in bold, to make it easier to navigate? Probably still too cumbersome but just thought I'd ask. Thanks.

Hey Laurie,

I haven't gotten any news of updates in that department as of right now, but I'll certainly pass your feedback along, that's an interesting idea!

Well, I did go ahead and put all our members on a dropdown list, which means we currently have a dropdown with 436 options, and we expect it to grow! Would still love to have a way to make this easier for our subscribers. Ideally a conditional menu where you first choose your state, and then only get a list of the options in that state, but I'm open to other ideas. Thanks
