My campaigns are going to the spam folder

My campaigns are either not reaching their destination or are ending up in spam folders. I don't have any trigger words in my newsletter like free or cheap. Please suggest. I am using Internet Explorer 11.0.

Looking at your most recent mailing, August Insider, I don't see anything in particular that catches my eye as a red flag.

That said, the following link to our Resource Center has some great general steps to take to ensure your mailings reach your recipients' inboxes.

Step 1, in particular, "Ask your recipients to add your from address to their address book or trusted sender list" can be helpful to ensure emails come through as expected (even if your recipient's email program thinks the mailing may be spam).

Another thing to keep in mind is that email programs like Gmail may flag your mailing as spam if they think the mailing looks like a known spam email. Try changing up the format or layout of your mailing and see if this helps.

Finally, recipients marking your mailing as "Not Spam" can also ensure your emails come through as expected.

In addition to what Greg has said, outside of very blatant spammy content, all of the big receivers put a lot of weight -- most of it in fact, on how the individual recipients have interacted with your prior messages. The categorization of emails as spam/notspam for subscribers at the big receivers is very, very personal. If it's going to the spam folder for a subscriber, it is almost certainly specific to them and not indicative of the behavior for other recipients at the same domain. For example, if a subscriber receives your messages and deletes them without opening them, they are more likely to be seen as spam for that recipient in the future. It won't influence the placement for other recipients at the same domain unless a substantial number of them are treating your messages in the same way.

Some negative influencers -
  • Message deleted without opening.
  • Message marked as spam.
  • Message identified as spam, but not marked as not-spam.
  • Message not moved out of the Junk folder.
To counter those, there are also positive influencers -
  • Message opened.
  • Message marked as not-spam.
  • Message moved out of Junk folder (to Inbox or other folder).
  • Message filed to a folder that is not Trash.
  • Message replied to.
  • Sender added to recipient's address book.
The last 3 of those are strong positive influencers and it's been suggested (by Gmail, at least) that they will almost certainly guarantee inbox placement for future emails for that recipient.
