How can you customize the opt-out message? I would like to ask users the reason for the opt-out.

Hello! A customized opt-out page or a field to gather feedback from departing audience members aren't possible right now, but we're considering it. The only reason we don't offer it now is that we haven't built it. :)

We do have a product owner focused on what our new forms will look like, so I'm passing this along to him to add to our backlog. I'm going to mark this as Not Planned right now only because we don't have a timeline built around this and I wouldn't want you to think we're considering it for, say, next month! But we're definitely talking about this, and I'll keep you updated here with any news.

This would definitely be helpful because I need to know why they are opting out.  Do you have a time frame of when this would be live?

I'm interested in this as well. We also want to know why they are opting out and how can we capture the information.

I'd like to customize the opt-out message to include something like "we hate to see you go but you can also follow us on LinkedIn..."

Katie - has this changed at all? Can we customize the opt out so folks can tell us why they've opted out? Also, how can I look at the opt out page and get a screen shot of what folks see (need to show our legal dept what it looks like). Thanks.

Good morning! There hasn’t been any change, though I’ll update you when there has been.

To get a screenshot of the opt-out page, I suggest signing up for your emails using a faux address — like sally+testing@example.com — and then opting out from a mailing you send yourself. You can add that plus sign and any text before the @ symbol, and the email will still deliver to your same inbox, though Emma sees it as a separate person.

Definitely interested as well. We'd like to heavily promote the Manage Preferences option prior to someone opting out.

If you’d like, our Design Team can revise your template’s footer so that the language around the Manage Preferences option is different, like "Click here to change the types of emails you receive from Hour Detroit.” Just give the team a shout through that linked form, and they’ll chat through your options. :)

that's an ok temporary solution, but would love to be able to "poll" people as to the reasons they are opting out. Thanks!

Is there a way the opt out page can redirect to our website? Is there a specific time frame that customization may become available?

Hello! There isn’t a way to redirect the opt-out page to your website. I’m not seeing that this idea has been submitted before, if you’d like to create a request for it.

We don’t have a timeframe for a customization like this. I’ll keep you posted with any news as we have it!

I would like to also vote that Firespring build this feature into its products.  It'd be great to offer people different options when they opt out and also get a sense of why they're opting out.  Thanks!

Hi Katie - just wanted to add that we'd be interested in a customized opt-out as well. For us, it would be to allow people to opt-out of donation emails while still staying on our newsletter so they can stay involved. Would love to know if this becomes available!

We want to be able to collect information as to why people are opting out and give them the option of only opting out of select mailing lists

Hi Tiffany! You can give your subscribers the option to manage their group membership preferences by following these steps.

If people have been asking for this for over a year - why hasn't it been developed yet? It's obvious from this thread, that people really want it. There are probably lots of other people out there who want this function but don't know how to tell you.

Behavioural information is very important to marketers. It helps us gauge why people don't want to stay on our list and to show us where we need to make adjustments to keep people.

I definitely understand your frustration, Tiffany. Much of last year and this year's roadmap has been focused on rebuilding our automated email tools and getting Emma working faster. It's behind the scenes work, and it's necessary to keep Emma in great working condition. We're fitting in revamped and brand-new tools as we can, and this is one w hear about -- and talk about -- often.

I'll keep you updated here as any news changes with this feature request. I'm so glad you've voted for it.

I would be very interested in (a) being able to customize the opt out message, and (b) -- especially -- be able to include a survey that gathers information on why -- this is important to our program metrics.

I agree, we host many events around the country and people are opting out of certain mailings for a region they aren't in, not understanding this also unsubscribes them from the event/region they DO want to hear about.

We have about 20 lists and people get put on an average of 5. But of they "opt-out" they end up opting out of all the lists. This seems a very blunt instrument. Am I missing something or is this another lack o My Emma's

I strongly agree with everyone's frustration above. We have 20+ lists and send from multiple users all the time so having a blanketed Opt Out page with this statement is misleading and frankly useless:

"After clicking the confirm button below, XXX@XXX.org will not receive another email from this sender."

We want to clarify that they will NEVER receive an email from us ever again if they opt out, not just "from this sender". We have emails coming from multiple senders.

I hope you have plans to update this very soon.

Thanks

This reply was created from a merged topic originally titled How do I create/edit an automatic message to users who unsubscribe to our newslet....

I'd like the users who unsubscribe to receive a message telling them 'We're sorry to see you leave', and offering a link to re-subscribe in case they changed their mind.

Hi William Henry Studio -- I've merged your post here so that you can easily follow along with this feature request for the ability to customize the opt-out page/language. There isn't a way to do that right now, and since your contacts are opting out of your list, there isn't a way to follow-up with an email using Emma. Our best recommendation currently is to highlight the manage preferences option in your emails, in hopes that your contacts might manage the groups they're subscribed to rather than opt ot of your list entirely. You can read more about that in this thread!
We would like the same thing -- the ability to ask people why they are opting out as an optional field before they click unsub. We would like to be able to change the questions each email. Perhaps we could link to a survey at the opt-out?

Add us to this list of mailers who'd like to ask why people unsubscribe. Would be enormously helpful in understanding how we might improve our message, layout--everything. I've seen this on emails I receive personally, so I know it's possible.

The ability to send a short survey when someone unsubscribes, as well as give them the option to manage their subscriptions instead of unsubscribing, would be tremendously valuable to us.
