I have a scenario that i use frequently with another provider but want to move these campaigns to Emma. Problem is that I need a variable link to also display variable content.
For example, I want the email text to read kdonegan.mydomain.com and be an active tracking link to [[purl]].mydomain.com.
When I use [[purl]].mydomain.com as my link as instructed in the knowledgebase, the only way I can make it work properly is to link to a static text element (click here)
Please reference my subaccount KUA, mailing name Emma link problem to see sample of problems and undesired scenario that works
Thank you

Hi Kevin! I’m stepping in for Ben after chatting with our product team. It looks like there are two choices:

  1. Use an unlinked PURL to send out personalized URLs so that it displays as the PURL in the inbox and the mail client will automatically link it to the correct page. Since the email client is doing the linking, it will not be tracked in Response. Here's how that would look in a text box: [% member:name_first default="" %].myemma.com
  2. Link some static text to the special double-bracket link setup to create a trackable PURL: Add http://[[name_first]].myemma.com/ to the link modal when highlighting text in a mailing.

After rereading your question, it sounds like you’ve already figured this out. We implemented the new PURL details last year, and the issue is with nested graffiti/brackets. In short, you can't have a tag in the URL and have the linked text also include a personalization tag, or it freaks out. :)

While this isn’t ideal, it's also an edge case, so it isn't something we’re planning on at the moment. If we start getting more questions from advanced users like you about this, we aren’t opposed to changing that status.
