When we send an email the preheader text in Outlook and in iOS on iphone show a long address instead of the first lines of text. The bracketed text is the alt text for the image. How can I get this to stop happening?
You’ve raised a really great question here, but first I’d like to apologize for the delayed response.
That preheader text (also known as preview text) by default is the first few lines of copy pulled from your mailing. In this case, iOS and Outlook are pulling your header image and displaying the alt text. Understandably this isn’t ideal.
Although the behaviour of different mail clients will vary, one way to avoid this happening is to avoid using images at the top of your mailing. The other, better way, is to populate the box titled “Preheader Text” - located in the Test/Review and Send panel - so that you’re not relying on the mail client pulling the default. I noticed in your mailing this box was blank, so I’m pretty certain that this is why Outlook and iOS were pulling the alt text of that image. I’ve got a really good blog post from our friends over at Litmus that works as a fantastic guide to preview text here.
In my tests I was able to solve your preheader woes by adding in some text of my own in that box, so you should be good to go. That being said, if you're still having trouble or have any further questions please don't hesitate to let me know :)
