Remove decimal from Numeric Field

It seems strange to me that the numeric field would automatically append a decimal and zero. I can't really imagine that this would be useful for most people. If the content of the field has decimals, include it in the personalization, if not leave it out.

For example, I imported customer numbers, but when I ran a personalized email they all have decimals, which is highly annoying.

Now, I discover that I can't change the field type after the fact. The only suggestion from Emma is to export and reimport my list, which, quite frankly, I'm not prepared to do with a list of 35k+. Please tell me that Emma can change the field type to something else in the back end!

Hi there.

We definitely appreciate your feedback on that and apologies for the annoyance that this has caused you.

I agree that appending that ".0" is not ideal.  Moving forward I would encourage you to go ahead and use the short answer field type unless you plan on doing some value-based segmenting.  This isn't something that we are able to change for you on our end, but it should only take a few minutes to sort this out and I'll run you through the quickest way to do it below.

You'll see in your "exports" in your account that I've ran a full audience export for you, download it.  Create a new field as a short answer (you'll need to call it something slightly different) and go ahead and archive the old customer number field.  Create a new import and drop the export back in, select "add and update", go ahead and ignore all fields except email address and customer number (tie it to the new field) and import.  You will need a select a Group to run the import, I would advise to create one that stipulates the purpose of this import (Update Customer Number Import) and import the list to that group.  It's important to note that this won't change any of the group memberships (neither will deleting that group once you've finished).

Now you will have that new Customer Number field updated to a short answer data type, this should probably take about 5 minutes and will fix any personalization woes moving forward.  If you need any help with this please just let me know, I will also pass on your feedback to our dev team!
