RSVP email verification

I'm moving this idea from here.

"You should not be allowed to send from a FROM email address until it is verified (by clicking on a link in a received email) by the "owner" of that email address. I've never seen an email marketing service that allows sending from "freeform" email addresses besides myemma.com. IMO it's not a great business practice to allow this. For instance, if I wanted, the way things are now, I could enter "prez@whitehouse.gov" in the return address field."

We do get the question from time to time to have an email verification for the from email address, and this is a good idea. I checked in with our Delivery Team, and looking at our product schedule, we wouldn't be able to tackle this until next year. Since there isn't a sooner timeframe to share, I'm going to mark this as Not Planned until we have more definition around those efforts.

That is a shame. I was even sent an email verification when signing up for "getsatisfaction.com", and those emails are just one-to-one.

Email campaigns are one-to-many, so as I stated before, it's really bad business practice to not have verification in place. Not having that makes it too easy to send an incorrect return address to thousands of recipients.

I understand, Paul. This has been added to our backlog of ideas to pull from as we shape the coming year. We have big-picture plans each quarter that are made up of quite a few smaller focuses. When we know that an idea won't be a part of that quarter's projects, it's marked as Not Planned here in the Community so that there's no misunderstanding about the timeframe -- You won't see this capability by year's end unless something changes, and if that's the case, I'll be sure to keep you in the loop here.
