Make Salesforce integration’s lead creation optional

Right now, Salesforce integration creates a lead anytime someone subscribes to my Emma list. I think this should be a setting we can turn on or off. If we have alot of leads added to our list this clogs our salesforce leads panel, and since Emma doesn't itnegrate with campaign in salesforce this is useless functionality - since we're not following up with emma leads outside of email - and I doubt other people do either.

I would remove this functionality, or make it an item that can be turned on or off. Should be simple as editing the workflow for the package that creates that leads. BUt I leave that up to you.

Hi there,

This is Cody with Emma's integrations team. I manage the product roadmap for our Salesforce integration, and I'm always happy to hear thoughts and suggestions from customers.

I think your idea for making the creation of new leads from Emma optional is a good one. Many of our customers are interested in keeping their databases in sync across platforms, even if it means creating new leads when folks join your Emma audience list independently of your Salesforce account. But we know that that's not for everyone, and if you have a lot of contacts in your Emma account who aren't yet in Salesforce before you sync your accounts, it can result in a lot of new leads that need to be sorted somehow. I'll keep your request in mind as we continue to expand our integration - it may be something that we can make optional sometime in the coming months.

Cheers,
Cody

Thanks Cody. I think the important thing to think of when syncing anything with leads is workflow. Are emma subscribers actually leads that need to be followed up with outside of Emma? I would image the answer to that question for most is "no."

BUt i would imagine the answer for some is also "yes" which is why i suggest making the option available in settings.

It's not an issue when you add a few names a week, but if you hit paydirt viral and get 200 leads in a day, it can be a nightmare to clean leads from salesforce.

Yep, I can understand how that could lead to a pretty rough day for a sales coordinator. Thanks for following up!

Hi Cody,

It's worth noting that more and more Salesforce customers have only a platform license, which is meant for those who want to develop their own database more from scratch. These platform licenses don't even have access to the Lead object. So far, there is only 1 email provider that will integrate with Salesforce platform licenses, having Emma be the 2nd would be great.

Hi Walker,

I have encountered this with one or two other customers who have attempted to use the integration. I'd be curious to learn how this arrangement affects users' overall experience on the Salesforce platform - especially regarding integrations. If you'd ever like to connect to talk further about how you use this configuration, you're welcome to email me directly at cody@myemma.com. I'll be out of the office next week but would be happy to connect after then.

Cheers,
Cody

Hi there,

We recently discovered that having leads in Salesforce, created by the Emma integration, is preventing our volunteers from creating an account with the same email address that is associated with a lead record.  Can we turn off that part of the integration so that our volunteers do not receive an error message when trying to create a new account?  We currently have 600+ leads, therefore 600+ volunteers that this would impact.

Hi there -- Lead creation is a key feature of the current integration and cannot be switched off since the integration is a two-way sync. I'll be sure to pass your use case along to the product team so that they consider it in future updates to the integration.
