Signups not added to group

I received an email notification of a new signup. The person was not added to any audience group even though I have specified they go to our Email Only group. We are integrated with Kindful. Is it correct that new signups are added to a specific group ONLY if they sign up using the Sign Up option on an Emma email (if someone shares the email, for example)? Do we have to continue to add signups to groups manually if they come through the website?

Going by your description, I suspect the contact was one that signed up through one of your Emma signup forms (possibly using the link in the bottom of one of your mailings).

For contacts signing up through an Emma signup form, you can specify what group (or groups) the contacts will be added to.

If you'd like to change what group (or groups) a particular signup form is linked to:

Go to your Audience tab and scroll down to the Signup forms section.

Click the Classic forms tab (you may need to scroll down again after doing so).

Click the down arrow of the signup form you wish to modify and click "Edit this signup."

At the next screen, click the Edit button on the far right and then click the "add or remove groups" button (to the right of your audience fields). Make sure to click Save after making any changes.

I'd recommend repeating this for each signup form you have to ensure contacts will go into a group when signing up, regardless of which form is used.
