Sometimes my photos are too large in the campaign and I cannot find a happy medium between too large and too small. How can I size a photo? (Yes -- I know the choices in the image editor. Sometimes the choices just are not right.)

I'll second this notion. The ability to enter a custom size that shrinks for mobile would be great, but I understand the complexities involved in that.

Maybe we need a "medium-large" option?

Maybe this thread is way old by now but I also think there should be a little more user-friendly way to size a photo within MyEmma -- or at the VERY least, a number of other sizing options. The Small is way too small and the Medium is significantly larger. I use other web apps that easily size photos up and down. Is there any hope that this may be possible soon, or any other options added?

Hi there, AGC!

Thanks for chiming in here. There's an Emma Community idea post here that I think may be inline with the image features you'd like to see within Emma. Please take a peek at that link for the latest update on our plans. And if there's some additional detail you'd like to provide on what you're seeking or a use case scenario, please feel free to add them to that idea thread so we can share with our development gurus!

Unless I'm mistaken, the most recent post in that thread, which talks about this feature being "on the drawing board," is at least five months old. I'd think that this photo-sizing feature -- again, which is commonly available in many other apps I've seen on the web -- would be one of the handiest new things you could offer us users. Sizing our images in an outside app before placing them in MyEmma is about as convenient as formatting all of our type in an outside app, too, befofre placing it in MyEmma (not very!). Any more specifics on a timeframe for this? I think I am signed up for a "what's new in MyEmma" webinar later this month, BTW -- I hope to hear some news on this then.

Good morning, AGC!

We don't have any more specifics quite yet, but we'll update that conversation with any news as it comes. Thanks for the follow-up!

Hi everyone! The answer here is two-fold:

1) You can size your image outside of Emma using a photo-editing application (we here on the support team often use the free one at picmonkey.com) to an exact specification of pixel height and width. Then you can upload the image to your campaign and use the "best fit" option - which will preserve your specific dimensions if...

2) The image width is not wider than the dimensions of your template. For example, if the width of your template if 600 pixels wide, but you size your image to be 760 pixels - then "best fit" will resize the image to be sure that it fits. If, however, you sized the image to be 345 pixels wide - then "best fit" would preserve that setting.

I hope this helps!

Cheers,
Ben

I use photoshop to make my graphics exactly the width I want, I upload them and choose Best Fit and they still don't appear wide enough in Preview. I've checked margins and padding, and those are set to zero. So if images are the same width, why are some narrower than others once they are placed?

Hi there! I'd love to take a peek at a specific sample so I can be sure I'm understanding your question. What's the name of a mailing in your account where the images aren't scaling down as you'd expect?

Once I hear back from you, I'll hop in and take a look!

Hi StarMark! Just wanted to circle back on this. Please post the name of a mailing in your account where the images aren't sizing as you'd expect if you're still having some trouble with this. Happy to take a look!

If I don't hear back from you, I'll assume things are resolved and you're good to go.

Thanks for giving me the example campaign! I took a look in that mailing, and I'm not 100% sure that I'm looking at the troublesome images.

Are you referring to the designer spotlight, home highlights and learn more images? Those three images all start at different original dimensions from each other -- 583 x 226px, 466 x 162px and 582 x 231px respectively. If there are some other images that begin at the same dimensions as one another that are not inserting at the same size, please point me in the right direction to take a peek at those.

If those are the images you're referring to, then when images start at different dimensions, they'll scale down differently within the application. On that flexible layout area within the specific template you're using, there is 10 pixels of padding coded into the template HTML, so the images and content within the flexible area will always be 10 pixels in from the edge, even if the image/content is wide enough to fill the full width there. Additionally, the home highlights image, which only has a width of 466 pixels in its original size, isn't wide enough to fit that flexible layout area, so that's why that image doesn't go as wide as the other two.

Hope this helps! Please give me a shout on this thread if I can provide some further clarification. Always happy to help!

My question is a bit different, I think. When I click the size I want the photo to appear in the template as, it doesn't change.

This sounds like a separate issue, so I'm moving your question to a new topic for us to answer and track there. :) Please reference the new topic here: Selecting an image size doesn't change the image

I would like to be able to tell the size in pixels of images in past campaigns... so i can keep consistent from news to news. So i can create the right size in advance.

Hi! Have you given this a go by clicking on your image, selecting to edit it and then choosing Crop? You can enter a custom height and width, like this:

And you can enter those same dimensions each time.

If what you’re hoping to achieve is clicking on an image in your mailing and automatically seeing the image’s pixels, that isn’t possible right now. But I’m happy to pass along your use case for this, if you’d like to submit a new feature request here.

I cannot find a way to shrink and image once I upload it in the editor. It seems silly that adjusting the image size is not an option within the editor, and that you need an external app to do so.

I’m sorry to hear you’re having trouble! When you say you want to shrink an image, do you mean make the entire image a smaller size or crop the image to display a smaller portion of it?

I seem to have the same problem that StarMark Cabinetry had. I'm working in a campaign called "

PFBN - COPY 2015-02-09 12:29 PM

I sized my images in photoshop. These images are all 610x610 pixels, but they still don't appear to be the same size in the 3-column section of my template. The content block settings for each column appear to be exactly the same (as far as I can tell), but the image in the center column looks different.

Hi there, University of Pennsylvania!

I see that you've called in and chatted with my colleague, Damian, on this question since posting here in Community. Based on the notes in that case, it looks like he was able to get you rolling on that call and get a feature request submitted on your behalf.

I'm going to go ahead and consider this resolved, but if you're having further image sizing trouble, please feel free to give me a shout here on the thread. Big thanks!
