I switched to the new signup form on my website and am still getting 10-15 spam signups / day. How can I work around this?

You can see the two place the forms reside here: https://milehighyp.com/connect

One is one connect page and the other is in the footer globally.

Thank you!

Hello!

Recently, there has been an uptick in the abuse of open signup forms on the internet. This attack has resulted in many email addresses being added to the lists of senders without either the sender’s or the recipient’s knowledge. Forms that are not secured by either a device like CAPTCHA or by requiring all new subscribers to click a confirmation url sent to them via email, are open forms that are vulnerable to this type of attack.

In order to protect your sender reputation, we have suspended your account until any signup form you are using is secure. Here are a few ways you can create a signup form that is secure from cyber attacks:

1. Create a form using one of our integrations. I have listed a few options below:

- Form Stack: http://myemma.com/partnerships/directory-info/formstack
- Gravity Forms: http://myemma.com/partnerships/directory-info/gravity-forms
- Wishpond: http://myemma.com/partnerships/directory-info/wishpond

2. You could use Emma’s API to build a signup form with a security feature. If you have a developer for your company, this is something you might want to reach out to them about. For more info on our API, visit http://api.myemma.com/

3. You can reach out to our Services team to build a custom Signup Form for your website. For more information on this service and pricing, check out http://myemma.com/services

Please let us know if there's anything we can do to help along the way!

Hi Laura,

Thank you for your response. I am confused though. I'm using an Emma form for my signups (the latest one) and you are suspending my account until I either develop my own form or pay someone to create a new one for me? That doesn't sound like the resolution I was looking for. It is quite annoying to clean out the spam signups, but I would rather do that than have a suspended account.

Please let me know how you recommend I proceed. I would think that Emma would provide some sort of secure sign up form as a part of their offering, or at least one that would allow me to continue to use my account.

Hi there,

We have implemented security features to our Emma signup form to deter bots. However, internet bots are constantly evolving to get past these security enhancements. We do have plans to add more security features and our Engineering team is working on that.

In the meantime, the options given above will help and we will post upgrades that we are able to implement in our Product Release Notes.

One of the integrations we offer above are great routes to go, or even using the Lightbox form we provide can add in a layer of security from these bots.

If we can help in any way with this, let us know.

Hi Grey, thanks for the follow up, but my most concerning point is that you have suspended my account. Is that still the case, or can I continue to send emails and add audience members? Thanks.

Hey there, so sorry for the delay getting back to you.  I'm not showing a block on your account right now, so you should still be able to send.

I looked into adding a lightbox form, but that is only a pop-up version. If I could trigger that lightbox form with a button, that would work, but it doesn't seem that is possible.

How do you set up a the double opt-in email confirmation functionality? I looked, but don't see anything.

I did see somewhere that Emma could develop a form using the reCaptcha functionality from Google. How much would that cost? Just looking to find a solution to not having to go in daily to delete spam users.

Thanks for your help!

Hi there!

Using the double-opt in confirmation can work a few different ways.  Art explains it well at the bottom of his answer ON THIS TOPIC

The key is using Segments to search for contacts who have information in their "confirmed opt-in" field.

Our Classic forms do have some built in security, but if the bots have found their way around this security and you're interested in getting a quote to add in a reCaptcha function to your Classic form, I'm happy to pass your information along to our Technical Services team to get you a quote.  The cost varies based on what all you're looking to get in the form, so it'd be best to talk to them directly to get a quote.

If you're interested in speaking to someone, let me know the best way to get in touch and I'll have someone reach out or you can fill out the request form on our Services page here:  http://myemma.com/services

Cheers!
