Trouble getting automation to work with a form using the API Add call

Hi there,

We're having a bit of trouble initializing an automated drip campaign for a simple signup form containing an email address only.

We've created an automation set to the proper segment, with the trigger event being "Sign up to receive your emails" and ALL. The way we are populating this is via the Add API call - not connected to a specific sign up form.

Challenge #1 - We disabled the workflow to try and resolve the issue, however we then realized that if we create a new workflow the system will probably interpret the users from before as existing and not send them the campaign (which was not working anyway). If we save the current list as a csv and then re-upload, will emma treat these as new signups? If not, how can I set an automation workflow and then treat the existing users as new?

Challenge #2 - How do we set up the campaign so that it automatically drips to new users properly? Shouldn't Emma be interpreting these as sign ups? Im simply using:

$url = "".$account_id."/members/add";

If you need any more information please let me know, we need to get this resolved urgently.

Greg with Emma Support here!

If you're using the Add API call, signup automation will only work for new audience contacts. It will not work for contacts that are currently in the audience (or have been in the audience previously).

A better option in this case would be to use the Signup API call and use a specific signup form as a source. This allows new contacts and existing contacts to signup and trigger the automation workflow.

This link to our Resource Center gives more info on signup automation and the tradeoffs of using the Add API call versus the Signup API call.

If you have any questions, let me know and I'll be glad to help.
