This conversation is no longer open for comments or replies and is no longer visible to community members. The community moderator provided the following reason for archiving: bug resolved

Steps to replicate:

1. Edit an existing segment (either by selecting from the dropdown in the segment list, or clicking the "edit this segment" button from the segment view)
2. Add a new criterion to the segment definition, or edit an existing criterion
3. Click "Save"

Expected result:
Segment should be saved with the new criteria and should refresh the page

Actual result:
Nothing seems to happen after clicking "Save". If the page is refreshed, it will redirect to Emma's login page.

Browser: Chrome for Mac Version 43.0.2357.124 (64-bit)
OS: Mac OS X 10.10.3

Update:
After trying this several times without success, I opened the developer console in hopes of getting some additional console output which might help Emma developers to troubleshoot this bug. However, with the console open, the save action worked as expected. No idea if this is due to the console or just a random coincidence. Here's the console output regardless, though since this is for a successful action I doubt it'd be of much use:

Hey Joel, thanks so much for that detailed information! This is a known bug in our system, and will crop up if you try to create segments after a session has timed out. The way to get past the login screen is to make sure you click the tools icon > Log out, then clear cache and cookies. When you log back in, you should be able to create or edit that segment.

We're actively working on this bug, and I'll update you here when that's fixed.

If you run into any more problems, please let me know! I really appreciate the detailed description of what you ran into, and I hope your system info will be of help!

Hi Paul,

I don't think that's quite right. As I said, I ran into this problem several times in succession, that is to say:

1. Try to edit segment
2. Redirected to login screen
3. Login
4. Return to Segment List view
5. GOTO 1

I tried it at least 4-5 times within a very short span of time (no more than 3-5 minutes) and the session should not have timed out within that period. For some reason the action of saving the edited segment was logging me out.

Hey Joel, thanks for that update. Just to be clear, while you were going through those steps, were you clearing your browser before logging in? Segments will continue to redirect to the login screen until you log out, then clear your browser's cache and cookies.

Another thing to consider is that we're dealing with a separate, but often related bug that logs users out very quickly, so you could be running into the issue with segments faster than you might think.

If that still doesn't sound right to you, let me know. Hopefully this will at least serve as a workaround while we work on those bugs.

No, I wasn't clearing anything. My typical scenario would be that I'd just logged in to Emma and proceeded to try to edit a segment until to be logged out. I'd login again successfully, and then immediately get logged out again the moment I try to save an edited segment.

I'll note that I've never gotten automatically logged out (apart from the session idle logout) while performing any other actions, but have consistently encountered the problem with editing segments.

Jumping in here to report that I'm having a similar experience. I'm trying to create a segment, and I'm unable to save it; when I close the window and try to create the segment again, I get the login window. It's happened three times in a row.

This reply was created from a merged topic originally titled Segment / Suppression list.

When I try to create a suppression list / segment list (in but not in) - I am not able to save the list...and Emma logs me out altogether. Please help!

So is there no fix to this yet? I see that it has been a bug for a few months...

Hey there, thanks for letting me know you've run into this bug as well. We've found that this bug has been getting progressively worse over the last few weeks, and we currently have a team looking into it. I'll make a note that you've had problems with the bug and I'll update this thread when we've got it fixed.

The workaround of logging out and clearing browser cache and cokies will still work in the meantime, but (frustratingly) might only work after clearing cache and cookies a second time. If it doesn't, please let me know about any other details (i.e. browser, operating system, segment settings) and I'll pass those details along. I'm also happy to attempt to create that segment if you find you can't, so post back here with the segment settings and I'll try to get it created!
