What does it mean that a recipient opened my email in a "trackable way?" How skewed is my open rate?

I know that certain contacts opened my email, because they informed me so. However, they do not appear in the "Opens" part of my report. How skewed is my open-rate if this is happening? Why are they not counted as opens?

Hello -- I just wanted to close the loop here and share what we've learned.

Emma tracks an open when images are downloaded or when a link is clicked in the mailing. So in short, two actions -- viewing the images in your email, or clicking through to your website using one of your mailing's links -- are trackable as opens. It's possible that a recipient could have received and read your email without showing up in your open numbers.

Generally, this should be a small percentage, but it does serve as a reminder that your open rate is an approximate number, as best we (or anyone) can track.
