Why are contacts being added to a new import list when they are not part of the import?

We imported a new list this morning and added it to it's own audience group. There are contacts NOT in the imported list that were automatically added to the list. This is not good.

Hi there -- I'd love to dig into this! Can you let me know which group you're referring to and the date/time of the import so that I can review that as well? Thank you!

Hi there -- the group is called "Maine Points 11/25". We ended up doing 4 separate uploads to try to correct the problem, but the same thing happened every time. They are from today (11/25) at 9:13am, 9:23am, 9:38am, and 9:45am. The latest import is the one represented in the group.

thanks!

This does seem strange...could you add the import file to your documents library so that I can download it to do some troubleshooting. I'll try adding the same list to a new group and see if I can replicate the addtional contacts being added.

Thanks! Let me know when I can hop in and grab that file!

Thank you! Was the Maine Points 11/25 group a new group that you created during the import process?

I finally got that list to import correctly! Is it possible that there were hidden fields in the spreadsheet, maybe as a result of your exporting method? Are you exporting this spreadsheet from a database of some kind or manually updating it?

When i copied the entire spreadsheet to a new workbook and used the paste special > values only commands (a little trick we use to get rid of any excess formatting), the file imported just the 1726 contacts that should be there.

You can see those in a group I created called Emma Testing. You can just copy those over into the appropriate group. Let me know and we'll see if we can pinpoint the problem. Thanks!

So weird! I looked for hidden rows, but I guess they're more hidden than we can see! It wouldn't surprise me if it's some "feature" of where we get the exports from. Thank you so much for your help!
